More Dog Pictures

Tony got a haircut today, the first time in four months. He was looking very bad, but now he feels so good, he doesn’t even want to take his sweater off, not to mention he is a bit cold.

Reno Veterans Day Parade 2009

Nevada Day 2009

Today was the annual Nevada Day parade held in Carson City, Nevada. This year’s theme was “Nevada Salutes President Lincoln.”

We made a trip to Salem, Oregon, to see Elven and Kasey Hillman. We got to see their new baby daughter, Bethany, and celebrate the birthday of their other daughter, Madison.

Dry docked boat

My landlord dumps water out of his boat, a boat that has never been in the water since he purchased it in 1987.

Lava Beds National Monument

Today my brother and I went to Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake, California. I had never been there before. We visited a number of the lava sites and toured four caves. I ended up getting “stuck” in a crawlspace because my brother got disoriented in the Catacombs cave, but I managed to get myself free and found my way out of it.

We didn’t have time to go to Medicine Lake, which is a highlight of the region. I would like to go there the next time I go. Actually, a side road from Highway 89 on the way to Burney Falls leads to it.

Brown Mountain Lava Flow

Today I went hiking on the Brown Mountain Trail near Fish Lake, Oregon, some 40 miles east of Medford. The weather was gorgeous, and I got some great pictures of Mount McLaughlin.

Oregon Caves National Monument

Today my brother and I went to the Oregon Caves National Monument in Josephine County, about 18 miles east of Cave Junction. This weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the caves being a national monument. There was a get-together to mark the occasion, but we decided to opt for the tour instead.

Central Point, Oregon, Fourth of July Parade 2009

Here are some pictures I took this morning of the 4th of July parade at Central Point, Oregon. This was the first time I had attended this event. When I am in southern Oregon during this time of the year, I usually go to the Ashland celebration.

Rooster Crow 2009 Video

My brother shot this video of the 2009 National Rooster Crow championship held in Rogue River, Oregon, June 27, 2009. As mentioned yesterday, Fluffy, a silkie rooster, won the contest with 42 crows.
